Two people died and 37 were injured in 31 accidents in Iowa last year at rural intersections due to obstructed views by crops or trees. With corn growing tall, Iowa Department of Transportation safety engineer Jan Laaser-Webb recommends motorists treat uncontrolled intersections as though a stop or yield sign is posted and do not enter the intersection until looking for traffic. She advises drivers should do the same at rural railroad crossings. As of July 15th, five crashes with 10 injuries have been reported due to obstructed views at rural intersections across the state.
