Work on the sanitary sewer system in Kalona is expected to wrap up by October. Municipal Pipe Tool Company is currently cleaning and inspecting 35,000 linear feet of sewer line located south of Highway 22. Problem areas found during the inspection will be relined. The project was prompted by concerns that groundwater is infiltrating the old line and making it to the wastewater treatment plant. The city has also hired a company to replace their force main, which will allow the lift station to operate at 100% capacity. The combined cost of the projects is $1,124,000.
