More than half of Iowa’s farmland is now rented. While farmland in the area has increased in value, rental rates dropped by 3.9 percent in east-central Iowa from 2012 to 2013, according to the Washington County Extension Office. Next week the extension office is hosting a farmland leasing meeting for area land owners, tenants and others to discuss farmland leasing, cash rental rates, and factors for next year’s rental rates such as market trends and input costs. The meeting will be held next Tuesday at 6 p.m., there is a registration fee. To register contact the extension office.
