Last year over the three-day Labor Day holiday, four people died in crashes, one of which was alcohol related. According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, in the past five years the months of August and September are the deadliest months of the year. Iowa law enforcement officers will have heightened enforcement this weekend through September 7th as part of the National Drunk Driving Campaign “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.” More than 250 agencies across Iowa are taking part in the program this week. Patrick Hoye, Bureau Chief of the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau, states the goal is to save lives and officers will be looking for not only drunk drivers but all traffic violations.
