Youngsters going to their first day of school this week will need proof they were given a number of vaccines. Washington County Public Health Nurse Lynn Fisher says those entering Kindergarten need a DTap, which includes vaccines for Pertussis, Diphtheria and Tetanus.

Vaccines for polio, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis and chicken pox are also required by law.

Fisher states last year a new law was enacted that mandates that any student entering 7th grade needs to receive a Tdap, a shot that maintains the immunity provided by the DTap they were given before Kindergarten.
