A house in Henry County is being considered for placement on the National Register of Historic Places. The Salem home was built in 1899, and has been in the Garretson family ever since. The building that sits on an 850 acre lot was originally owned by Owen and Emma Garretson.

The consideration was prompted by a survey done by the Henry County Historic Preservation Commission. The history of the home has been investigated, and according to current owner, Joel Garretson, a site inventory was also done. During that process, he learned having the original doors, windows and siding replaced can hurt your chances of receiving a spot on the national register.

The home is now being evaluated by state officials before it goes to the federal level.
