The Sigourney-Keota football team just missed the playoffs last year with a 5-4 record that they are looking to improve upon this year.

The Savage Cobras bring back an experienced quarterback in Blaine Gretter for his junior season, while Nate Siren returns as the lead running back with 769 yards and eight touchdowns, and Peyton Crawford will be the backup with 287 yards and four touchdowns. The receiving core is one of the main areas that they will need to rebuild, with Siren as the leading returner with 24 yards on two catches.

Defensively the Savage Cobras are set up pretty well. They do lose their leading tackler in Jeremiah Green, but keep Cole Strigle with 84 tackles last year and a sack, and Ben Horras with 75 tackles last year.

SK’s biggest issue is their schedule, as they run into the same problem as Columbus. They start out against BGM on Friday, and then take on Pekin, before they pull the private school double, traveling to Regina and then hosting Pella Christian in back-to-back weeks. They take on mid-Prairie September 26th, move on to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Freemont, and wrap up the season with Highland, Columbus and West Marshall.
