The Washington County Board of Supervisors signed a conditional letter of support to be an overnight host location for next year’s RAGBRAI route. Michelle Redlinger, Director of the Washington Chamber of Commerce, explained she is currently collecting letters of support from entities for Washington to be a host community. Letters of support have been signed by the Washington City Council and Police Department and Redlinger stated the Sheriff’s office was also working on a letter of support.

If Washington is selected, it would be a host city Friday, July 24th, the same night as the demo derby at the county fair.

Coinciding with the demo derby raised concerns with the supervisors. Supervisor Richard Young who is also director of the ambulance service stated two of the four ambulances are already reserved for the demo derby and having RAGBRAI could be an issue. Redlinger stated she will speak with the Fair Board regarding the demo derby and possibly rescheduling which night it is held.

The route for next summer’s RAGBRAI will be announced in January.
