The WACO volleyball team makes a coaching switch this year, but not to anyone new.

Jay Coble takes over the head Warrior spot after former head coach Tom Fergusson stepped down. Coble was the interim coach last year, filling in for Fergusson who went on a sabbatical.

Last year the WACO volleyball team went from winning three games in 2012-13 to 18 games in 2013-14 and finished sixth in the conference.

According to coach Coble, they had a goal this year to get as many girls out for volleyball as the football team had boys, and they succeeded.

The Lady Warriors bring back second and third leading attackers Aaliyah Brown and Erika Leichty to the team, but while their offense comes back strong, they will have to replace Ashlyn Hammen as the setter who averaged 5.25 assists per set. Defensively, the whole team got involved in the back row, and while they do lose three seniors who had 200 digs or more, Leah McElhinney comes back with 196, and Leichty led the team with 351.

WACO kicks off the season with a tournament on August 25th and start conference play on Thursday September 4th. WACO will play Mediapolis on September 16th, and will play school rival WMU on October 9th.

Listen in to the PM sports page tomorrow night to hear coach Coble talk about taking over the program, and talk about how his team looks in the early part of the preseason.
