WACO School District is planning to save money on electricity by utilizing solar power. At a meeting this week, the school board chose the low bid of $812,000 from Atwood Electric of Sigourney for the project. They’ll install a large solar array at the elementary school in Crawfordsville that’s expected to cut energy consumption by 80%. Smaller systems are also being installed at the secondary building in Wayland, near the concession stand and track, as well as at the softball and baseball fields. Superintendent Darrell Smith says they need the project completed by October 31st in order to get rebates from Alliant Energy.
