The Highland Huskies defense has been strong so far this season. Since opening up the season with a 21-7 loss to Danville, Highland has held each of their last three opponents to under 14 points per game. Last week, the Huskies only gave up a safety in their 33-2 win last Friday against West Marshall. Five different Huskies forced turnovers in the victory last week, which improved Highland to 3-1 overall.

Highland’s defense will be put to the test tonight on the road against the defending Class 1A state champions the Iowa City Regina Regals. Since being upset by Solon 29-28 in Week 1, the Regals have held their opponents to under two touchdowns, and have given up just six points in each of their last two games.

As heard on last Saturday’s Jet Physical Therapy Coaches Corner, Highland head football coach Tony Johnson says his team is ready to show up and fight tonight in Iowa City.

“We are not going to back down, we are going to get better.” Johnson said, “There were some things we can improve on from this past week’s game, and we are going to get better as a team and move forward. We have a tough game ahead of us and the kids know that and we are looking forward to the challenge.”

The real challenge for the Huskies defense will be finding a way to stop Regal quarterback Drew Cook. The senior, through four games, has racked up 996 yards of total offense, and has scored 13 touchdowns. Highland is heading north to face Iowa City Regina in the Regal’s homecoming game.
