The Washington Demons dropped a tough game to start off the district season last night.

The Demons went into Clear Creek-Amana and made the first score of the game, but in the end couldn’t hold on and fell 20-17.

The opening kickoff was a 60 yard return by Jack Giardino to set the Demons up in great field position, and on a fourth down situation it was Daryn Seibelius who took it 22 yards for the score and made it 7-0 Demons. CCA made their own drive next, lasting six minutes and resulting in a two yard touchdown on the back of Tanner Bandy to make it 7-7 after one.

In the second quarter the Demon got stalled at about midfield before Seibelius busted a run outside that steamrolled one Clipper, and he stiff armed another to take it 41 yards for the score and the Demons led 14-7, but the Clippers weren’t done. Making another run down the field they got within field goal distance and put it through from 30 yards, and that’s the way the half ended at 14-10 Washington.

Clear Creek got the ball to start the third quarter, and both teams went back and forth with some failed drives, until the Demons were inside the 20 yard line and threw an interception on the one yard line. The Clippers called a time out, figured out a play and Nile Rouke hooked up with Bandy for a 99 yard touchdown strike to make it 17-14 Clippers. Washington drove down the field after that and showed their special team game with a 35 yard field goal from Jacob Baughman for his first one of the season.

In the fourth quarter no team could get things going, and then Rouke threw an interception to Seibelius who returned it for a pick six, but it was called back on a holding call. Washington still took over first down and 10 from the Clipper 22, but the deep zone play of the Demons haunted them and then couldn’t score. The Demon defense held the Clippers all the way at the goal line for three plays, but a chip shot put them ahead 20-17.

The Demons had a chance late with little time on the clock and no timeouts. They threw a couple of long passes, but then ran the ball up the middle a couple of times for no gain, and an interception ended the game.

Seibelius had two rushing touchdowns for 116 yards, and was 9-18 passing with no touchdowns and two interceptions.

Washington falls to 1-2 on the season 0-1 in the district and returns home next week to face Fairfield.
