Iowa law enforcement agencies will have increased enforcement today and through September 7th. Over last year’s three-day Labor Day holiday in Iowa, four people died in crashes, one of which was alcohol related. This heightened enforcement is part of the National Drunk Driving Campaign “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.” More than 250 agencies across Iowa are taking part in the program this week.
Patrick Hoye, Bureau Chief of the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau, states the goal is to save lives and officers will be looking for not only drunk drivers but all traffic violations. During all of 2013, 317 people died in motor vehicle crashes, 75 of which were attributed to drivers impaired by alcohol or drugs.
