Those looking to get their high school equivalency diploma in Iowa will now take the HiSET, or High School Equivalency Test, not the GED. The HiSET covers five core areas – language arts, writing, mathematics, science and social studies. Virginia Styron, High School Completion Programs Coordinator at the Kirkwood Washington Center explains the test coincides with the Iowa core curriculum schools are teaching. Styron encourages anyone wanting their diploma to enroll in a program and take the test. Last spring Styron had a retired woman who didn’t finish high school enroll in the program and get her equivalency diploma. For more information listen to today’s Washington Page with Styron.
