Alcohol may have played a role in a fatal train accident that occurred in Fairfield August 31st. The Fairfield Police Department has determined 42-year-old Mark Dean Kneeskerm was lying on his back partially on the railroad when the accident occurred at 4am.
Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railway personnel activated the train’s emergency braking system and repeatedly sounded the train’s horn. Kneeskerm appeared to be unresponsive. Foul play is not suspected. An autopsy did show that his Blood Alcohol Content was significantly high.
Fairfield Police officials remind citizens that, other than designated crossing areas, the railway is considered private property.
