As the Emerald Ash Borer continues its spread across Iowa, Kalona residents are being given a chance to learn more about the insect. The Kalona City Council, Trees Forever and Iowa’s Forestry Bureau are hosting two meetings that will cover the potential impact of the Emerald Ash Borer and ways to deal with infestations. The first meeting is being held Monday, September 15th at 6pm at the Kalona Public Library. A follow up meeting will be held later in the fall. In response to a number of infestations in the state, including confirmed cases in Mount Pleasant and Fairfield, a quarantine restricting the movement of ash tree products to non-quarantined areas of other states is in effect.
