Over $2,500 has been raised for the K-9 fund of Washington County. The sheriff’s office is submitting an application for a Washington County Riverboat Foundation grant to get and train a new K-9 officer. The department’s dog, Joe, retired in January after working on routine patrol, drug investigations and search and rescue cases. Area businesses and private donations have raised $2,590 for the fund, according to Auditor Dan Widmer.
