This week is Suicide Prevention Week in Iowa, as declared by Governor Terry Branstad. In 2013, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health, 445 Iowans died by suicide and it is the second leading cause of death for Iowa in 15- to 24-year-olds, as well as 25- to 44-year-olds. If you or someone you know appears to be depressed and possibly suicidal call the Suicide Prevention Lifeline at (800)273-TALK or Your Life Iowa at (855)581-8111, there are also online services at SuicidePreventionLifeLine.org or YourLifeIowa.org.
