Thirteen percent of public school districts in Iowa are identified as districts in need of assistance according to the annual state report card for No Child Left Behind. Washington Community School District Superintendent Dr. Mike Jorgensen announced all targets in math were met this year. Of the 1,356 schools for which adequate yearly progress was measured, 737 public schools, or 54.4 percent, were identified as schools in need of assistance, an increase of 7.2 percent. Washington was noted as a district in need of assistance for reading proficiency.
