The City of Wellman is considering a change in legal representation.Dan Kitchen is the current city attorney, and is also the local magistrate. City Administrator Nick Pacha says that has proven to be problematic when they need to go before a judge for hearings dealing with matters such as nuisance abatement. That judge would be Kitchen, but he’s unable to oversee those cases since he is Wellman’s attorney. This requires city staff to schedule a hearing with a different judge. Pacha says Kitchen does a great job, but it would be less complicated if they were to find new representation. The city is now seeking proposals from local attorneys.
