The 2014 cross country season comes to an end this weekend in Fort Dodge.2014 Iowa State Cross Country meet takes place this Saturday at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge. Several KCII area schools will be represented by one or multiple runners.

The school who will be the best represented in Fort Dodge tomorrow is the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks. The Golden Hawks’ girls cross country team finished second in their district to qualify for the Class 2A state meet. Individually, Mid Prairie’s Anna Hostetler (3rd place; 16:36) and Maddie Zahradnek (9th place; 17:06) finished in the top ten individually in their district and will run the state meet. Mid-Prairie’s Jared Draper (3rd place; 16:56) was the lone Golden Hawk to finish in the top 10 individually at the district meet last Thursday in Louisa-Muscatine.

The Iowa Mennonite School qualified three senior runners for the state meet. Riley Schmieder (6th place; 16:02) and Renee Buckwalter (8th place; 16:15) ran in the top ten in their disrict race in Solon. Kirby Shetler (9th place; 17:44) also qualified from the boys race. The three will represent IMS in the Class 1A race.

Highland has two boys who qualified for the Class 1A race last Thursday in Solon. The runners include Evan Mahler (2nd place; 16:57) and Keiffer Sexton (3rd place: 17:02).

Finally, Winfield-Mount Union qualified two boys runners while Columbus Community Schools qualified one boys runner during the district meet in Pekin. The Wolves qualifiers are Gavin Bencze (2nd place; 15:23) and Johnathon Quinn (6th place; 15:52). Columbus’s lone qualifier is Josh Keller (4th place; 15:46).

The championship races start Saturday at 11 a.m with the Girls 4A race. The Girls Class 2A meet runs at 1 p.m. with the boys race running at 1:30 p.m. The Girls Class 1A meet will begin at 2 p.m. with the boys running at 2:30 p.m.
