An annual event nearly 300,000 Iowans took part in last year is scheduled for tomorrow. The Healthiest State Walk was started four years ago as part of Iowa’s Healthiest State initiative. The goal is to earn that title by 2016. Last year, Iowa was ranked the 10th healthiest state in the United States in the Gallup-Health Well-Being Index. When the initiative started in 2010, the state was ranked 19th. According to Lynn Fisher, Washington County Public Health nurse, Washington’s event in 2013 drew 3,700 people to the downtown area. This year’s walk will be held tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, listen to today’s In Touch with Southeast Iowa.
