A new fall event involving pumpkins and book characters is taking place at the Washington Public Library this month. The first Festival of Pumpkins will be held at the library beginning today through October 23rd. Library patrons are invited to bring a pumpkin to the library painted as a favorite book character or decorated in other creative ways between today and Thursday, October 9th.

The decorated pumpkins will then be on display through October 23rd and will be judged by library patrons with winners announced Friday, October 24th.

The contest is open to all ages and any pumpkins left at the library will be displayed during Trick or Treat Around the Square on Halloween and disposed of that night.
