As temperatures continue to drop more people are turning on heat in their homes. The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, is now accepting applications for households with an elderly or disabled member or those who have a disconnect notice or are disconnected. According to Hawkeye Area Community Action Program, a household may qualify for LIHEAP if the total income of all persons in the home falls in a certain range. For example, a household with two annual incomes below $31,460 total may qualify. Proof of income has to be established. HACAP will send a notice of approval or denial within 30 days of application.
