Huskies have been celebrating homecoming festivities this week and will top it off with tonight’s football game.

The 3-2 Highland Huskies will be looking to avoid their first losing streak of the season as they welcome in the 3-2 Pella Christian Eagles for a district matchup. Last Friday, the Huskies saw their three game winning streak get snapped at the hands of Iowa City Regina 49-14. It was the first time this season that Highland’s defense had given up more than 21 points to an opponent. Senior Brian Garcia rushed for a team high 151 yards and a touchdown in the setback. A main reason for the Huskies’ defensive success in 2014 has been the amount of turnovers they have been able to force. In their first five games this season, Highland has forced 14 turnovers (five interceptions, nine fumble recoveries) including three by senior Ben Bean (two interceptions, one fumble recovery).

Pella Christian was able to get their 2014 record above .500 last week, while also ending a two game losing streak by beating Eddyville-Blakesburg 42-8. The Eagles are led offensively by their sophomore quarterback David Kacmarynski, who has 1328 yards of total offense (1044 passing, 284 yards rushing) and 11 total touchdowns (nine passing, two rushing).
