A Southeast Iowa Super Conference rematch will be a postseason opener tonight in Riverside.

The 15-13 Highland Huskies is hosting the first round of the regional tournament against a familiar foe in the 14-7 Pekin Panthers. The Highland Huskies enter postseason play after a straight set victory over Lone Tree (25-19, 25-18, 25-10) last Tuesday. Highland and Pekin have met once already this season. The Huskies fell in straight sets to the Panthers (22-25, 13-25, 15-25) in a conference match on September 16th.

“That night I felt like they were on and they played the best game I have seen them play and we just weren’t on our game at all.” Highland head coach Chris Rath said, “They just took us by surprise and we just did not have a good game.”

Highland has two senior hitters with over 100 kills this season: they are seniors Sam Dutton (129) and Chelsey Lampe (118). Lampe leads the Huskies in assists with 197. Tonight’s match between Highland and Pekin begins at 7 p.m. The winner advances to face West Branch next Tuesday in the regional quarterfinals in West Branch.
