Plans for a partnership between the City of Kalona and YMCA of Washington County are moving forward. Following a presentation YMCA representatives gave at Monday’s meeting, the City Council directed staff to continue negotiations.

In attendance were YMCA of Washington County CEO Becky Harkema, Wellman Parkside YMCA Facility Director Angie Boyse and Riverside Program Coordinator Marcus Hall. They covered the benefits of having the organization manage the Kalona Community Center, and the youth, adult and senior citizen programming they could offer to the residents of Kalona.

City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says a contract will likely go before the council at their November 3rd meeting. He adds the two year agreement would begin January 1st. For more information, listen to today’s In Touch with Southeast Iowa.
