The Washington Demons were competing against the best runners in the Southeast Conference Thursday afternoon..

The Demons competed in the conference meet at Mount Pleasant High School Thursday afternoon, with the top ten finishers being named all-conference runners.

In the girls’ meet, Keith finished with a time of 16:23, the third best individual time. She would be the only Washington participant for the girls to finish in the top 10. Demon runner Mariah Howard finished second on the team with a time of 18:03, finishing 16th overall in the meet. Brooke Stout finished 10 seconds behind Howard in 18th place.

Fort Madison ran away with the team title scoring 29 points. Fairfield came in second with 42, followed by Mount Pleasant with 76, and Washington with 79.

On the boys’ side, sophomore Owen Horak and senior Curtis Vest hoped their friendly competition would push them both to be all-conference runners. Horak would finish first for the Demons with a time of 18:50, good enough for an eighth overall finish in the meet. Vest would finish two seconds behind him in ninth place.

Mount Pleasant came away with the team title with 32 points. A close second was Fort Madison who had 35 points, followed by Washington with 85, and Fairfield with 104.

The Washington Demons will have the next week off to prepare for the district meet next Thursday at Solon High School.
