Those impacted by the actions of a Washington daycare provider are hoping their situation will lead to stricter laws. On Wednesday, 48-year-old Debra Renee Crawford was sentenced to four days in jail and placed on two years supervised probation.

Crawford pled guilty to four counts of child endangerment after it was discovered in May that she had children take naps strapped or tied to car seats.

Shortly after charges were filed, the families involved in this case and the Washington County Attorney’s Office met with legislators who represent Washington County in the state House of Representatives to provide an overview of their situation. According to Washington County Attorney Larry Brock, the families and his office believe that laws governing in-home daycare facilities like the one Crawford operated need to change. Currently, facilities that provide daycare to less than six children at a time are not required to be licensed, registered or inspected by any government agency.
