The Lone Tree Lion volleyball team will have home field advantage for their postseason run.

Several Class 1A Region 7’s matches will be held at Lone Tree High School, including the Lion’s first round matchup with Rivermont Collegiant tonight. Lone Tree heads into the postseason 8-17 overall and have been playing better of late. Five of the Lion’s eight wins have come during Lone Tree’s last 10 matches. Head volleyball coach Laura Sieverding says how far the Lions can advance in the tournament will depend on their fundamental details.

“We need to be able to pass the ball in a controlled manner, get it to our setter.” Sieverding said, “We need to cover our transitions. We get kind of loose and flat footed sometimes and we need to stay on top of that and always be moving.”

One player to watch out for in this matchup would be sophomore Elena Sieverding. She leads the Lions with 145 kills and 27 blocks this season. Another is junior Hailey Comer who leads Lone Tree with 250 assists.

The winner of the match will advance to the second round next Tuesday against the Iowa Mennonite School or English Valleys. The second round match will also at Lone Tree High School.

Tonight’s Lone Tree and River Collegiant match begins at 7 p.m.
