The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks volleyball team extended their season last night at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman. The Golden Hawks welcomed in the Albia Lady Dees to town for a first round matchup in the Class 3A Region 8 tournament.

The Golden Hawks got off to a early lead, and ultimately prevailed in straight sets (25-12, 25-21, 25-14). Head coach Cindy Miller said was ecstatic to get the victory.

“You can play teams that are great, and you can play teams that are not so great.” Miller said, “You know what though, anything can happen when it is postseason play, so a win is huge for us.”

The win improves Mid-Prairie to 14-16 overall, an eight game improvement from last season, and will get a chance to face West Liberty after the swept Louisa-Muscatine out of the postseason last night (25-7, 25-7, 25-4). Miller is excited about a rematch with the Comets.

“This will be the third time we get to play them this season.” Miller said, “A lot of those games we played right with them we just couldn’t finish. We have worked hard since we last played them and I think we are a better team.”

The regional semifinal match between Mid-Prairie and West Branch takes place this Thursday at 7 p.m. at West Liberty High School.
