Before this season, the Mid Prairie Golden Hawk volleyball team hadn’t won a conference match since 2010.With their win on Tuesday against Iowa City Regina, the Golden Hawks now have two conference victories this season alone. Senior Taylor Kurtz said she started to see the team take positive turn during the second game of their recent conference match against Tipton.

“We lost 25-8 and then we came back to win the next three games and won them really close.” Kurtz said, “It just showed we were finally fighting, believing in ourselves, trusting our teammates and that was a huge turning point for us. ”

Since the Tipton victory, the Golden Hawks have won four of their last six matches to improve their overall record to 9-11. Head coach Cindy Miller says she has seen more mental toughness out of her team, including in Tuesday nights victory over the Regals.

“You can not pull out games that are that close, with that much noise in the gym, with that much pressure put on those kids unless you are mentally tough.” Miller said.

Mid-Prairie will be back at Tim Grady Gymnasium this evening as they will host the 12-11 Wilton Beavers.
