Kalona city officials are meeting with members of the state’s emergency management group next week. They met last week to discuss securing federal money to repair damage caused by flooding that occurred in Kalona over the summer. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says additional testing was done this week on the damaged portion of their storm sewer as recommended by the state, who will ultimately send the request to FEMA. The testing revealed that the damage is more extensive than first thought. Schlabaugh says that means the cost to repair the storm sewer may exceed the initial estimate of $127,000.
