The WACO Warrior volleyball team hits the road this evening for their postseason opener.

The 15-16 WACO Warriors travel to Burlington this evening for a matchup with the Notre Dame Nikes. The Warriors enter the postseason off a straight set victory over Louisa-Muscatine (25-11, 25-19, 25-18) last Tuesday. Head coach Jay Coble believes the competition his team faced in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference has prepared them to play Notre Dame.

“We have had to face night in and night out teams that are really balanced and can do a lot of things.” Coble said, “Winfield-Mount Union a week and a half ago could do so many things to us. Pekin has some tremendous athletes. Just having to prepare for those people certainly helps when you are going and facing a team like Notre Dame.”

WACO is led by seniors Aaliyah Brown and Erika Leichty. Brown leads the team in kills with 152, while Leichty has 132 kills to go along with a team leading 182 digs. This evening’s match between WACO and Notre Dame serves at 7 p.m. The winner will travel to face New London next Tuesday in the regional quarterfinals.
