Washington County is right around its average first frost date. According to State Climatologist Harry Hillaker, the 50 year average for the area is October 11th.
He adds first frosts have been known to occur much earlier and later than that. The earliest frost recorded in this part of southeast Iowa occurred September 13th, 1902. The latest first frost happened November 8th, 1956.
The National Weather Service is expecting patchy frost along and north of the 1-80 corridor tomorrow morning.
