The Washington Demons (5-3 overall, 4-1 in district) control their playoff destiny when they step on Case Field this evening.

The Demons welcome the Davenport Assumption Knights (5-3 overall; 4-1 in district play) to town of the final regular season game of the season. The game is Washington’s inaugural Heroes Night, which will recognize the community’s former military personnel, emergency responders, teachers and more.

The game itself has huge implications for playoff seeding in the district. The winner of tonight’s game will secure the number two seed and home field advantage in the first round. Head coach Garrison Carter says hosting a first round playoff game Wednesday is the team’s goal.

“I think it is a huge thing for our team, our community, and for our chance at making a run.” Carter said, “Playing a 3 seed in the first round at home instead of playing an opposing district’s two seed on the road is a huge difference.”

Davenport Assumption comes into tonight’s matchup off a 35-22 win last Friday at home against Fairfield. Like Washington, Assumption’s lone district loss came at Clear Creek Amana two weeks ago (27-0). Assumption head football coach Wade King says as he has watched film, he has been impressed with Washington’s offensive and defensive lines.

“The thing that jumps off the page for me is they are pretty physical up front.” King said, “I really like how their offensive and defensive lines play. They are a lot like us, they have a number of kids playing both ways.

Coach Carter agrees that the Demons and Knights have a lot of similarities.

“Obviously over the past few weeks we have aired it out more than they will do.” Carter said, “I think personnel wise, I think it is two similar football teams playing for the same thing tonight. It should be a really fun matchup to watch.”

Washington and Davenport Assumption are set to play this evening at Case Field. You can hear all the action beginning with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame Show at 7 p.m. on FM 106.1 and KCIIradio.com.
