The Washington Demons football team received a second half challenge from mother nature Friday evening at Case Field.

As you heard last night on FM 106.1 KCII and KCIIradio.com, A thick layer of fog hovered over the stadium during the third and fourth quarters of Washington’s Heroes Night football game against Davenport Assumption. Despite the vision challenge, the fog proved to be no problem for the Demon offense.

Washington senior Daryn Sebellius (114) and Jacob Hennigan (219) each rushed for over 100 yards and two touchdowns as the Demons secured a home playoff with a 45-27 victory over the Knights.
Hennigan said the fog didn’t play too much of a factor in the game.

“It was getting kind of hard to see and we were trying to adjust to that.” Hennigan said, “The ball wasn’t there a whole lot so it wasn’t a huge factor to us.”

The reason the fog wasn’t a factor for the Demons is because Washington played with a lead the whole football game. Washington led 17-7 after the first quarter, and 24-7 at halftime. Head coach Garrison Carter said the key to victory was the play of the Demons offensive line.

“They physically assaulted one of the better run defense teams in the district.” Carter said, “We are playing playing really good football right now.”

Washington heads into postseason play on a season high four game winning streak, finishing the regular season with a record 6-3. The Demons host the 6-3 Independence Mustangs in the first round of the playoffs Wednesday evening. Coverage begins with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame Show at 6:30 p.m. on FM 106.1 and KCIIradio.com.
