The Washington and Mid Prairie cross country teams competed Monday afternoon in an area school’s Invitational.

The Iowa Mennonite School held their annual meet at the Wellman Golf Course on Monday afternoon. On the boys’ side, Mid-Prairie senior Jared Draper finished second overall in the meet with a time of 17:21. Draper was the only area finisher in the top 10 individually in the meet. His teammate, freshman Zach Pettit finished in 14th place with a time of 18:04. For Washington, sophomore Owen Horak placed a team best 30th with a time of 18:56. Senior Curtis Vest finished twelve spots behind him with a time of 19:21. Vinton Shellsberg won team meet with 39 points. Williamsburg came in second with 51, followed by Clear Creek Amana with 67, Mid-Prairie with 115, and Solon rounds out the top five with 170 points.

In the girls’ meet, Mid Prairie freshman Anna Hostetler finished second overall with a time of 15:39. Mid-Prairie sophomore Abby Tornow finished eighth overall with a time of 16:34. For Washington, they were led by junior Emme Keith who finished 15th overall with a time of 16:41. Freshman Brooke Stout finished in 35th place with a time of 17:50. Williamsburg won the team meet with 61 points. Vinton Shellsburg finished in second with 69, followed by Solon with 72, Mid-Prairie with 90, and Fairfield finished out the top 5 with 105 points.

Washington will return to competition next Thursday at the Old Threshers in Mount Pleasant. Mid-Prairie will be back in competition this Saturday as they will compete in the North Linn Invitational.
