The Washington Demons’ volleyball team had a short stay in postseason play. The Demons welcomed in the Davenport North Wildcats to Washington High School for the first round of the Class 4A Region 7 tournament Monday evening.

Washington’s postseason lasted less than an hour as they were swept out of the regional (21-25, 12-25, 10-25). It was not the finish head coach Julliana Berg had hoped for her four seniors, who ended their playing career’s with the loss last night. Berg says she told the seniors despite having an abrupt end to their season, they should leave the gym with their heads held high.

“I am deeply sorry from the bottom of my heart that we had to go out that way but life goes on.” Berg said, “We have all these really great memories that we made together.”

Those Demons’ players who played their final high school volleyball matches Monday evening include: Sydney Hoffman, Macey Marek, Lauren Swan, and Anna Wheeler. As for the future of Washington volleyball, Berg is encouraging her returning players to get into club ball this winter.

“Just playing is so huge with volleyball.” Berg said, “You just can’t teach experience and I think that is true in every sport and in life. The more we can get them on the court and playing a little bit of volleyball will be huge.”

The Demons end the 2014 season with an overall record of 6-23.
