A temporary weight limit exemption for trucks on Iowa roads is now in effect. Governor Terry Branstad signed a proclamation granting the exemption for 60 days, which started October 1st. The weight limit specifically increases the weight allowable for shipment of corn, soybeans, hay, straw and stover by 12.5 percent per axle without the need for an oversize permit. This proclamation applies to all highways in Iowa, with the exception of the interstate system and trucks must obey the posted limits on all roads and bridges. The exemption is to help improve farmers’ efficiency during harvest.
