The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves opens up their postseason run with a familiar opponent. The 23-9 Wolves welcome in the 12-11 Sigourney Savages to town for a Class 1A Region 8 quarterfinal matchup.

The Wolves enter the postseason on a three match winning streak. Winfield-Mount Union was last on the court on October 14th when they defeated the Wapello Arrows in straight sets (25-21, 25-21, 25-23). Offensively, senior Nicole Esher leads the Wolves with 203 kills, while senior Caitlin Jamison leads Winfield-Mount Union with 520 assists. Defensively, Esher leads the Wolves with 333 digs, while senior Lou Krieger-Coen leads Winfield-Mount Union with 63 blocks.

The Sigourney Savages opened up postseason play last Tuesday in a straight set win over Marharishi (25-12, 25-8, 25-7). Offensively, senior Jordan Carters leads the Savages with 326 kills, while freshman Leah Carter has a team leading 426 assists. Defensively, Carter leads Sigourney with 214 digs and 33 blocks.

These two teams met in last year’s regional tournament. Winfield-Mount Union prevailed in the match over Sigoruney in five sets (12-25, 23-25, 25-16, 27-25, 15-6) back on October 29th 2013. The regional quarterfinal game between Winfield-Mount Union and Sigourey serves at 7 p.m. in Winfield.
