The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves’ volleyball team faces the the top team in Class 1A  this evening.The 24-9 Wolves travel to Fort Madison this evening for a Class 1A Region 8 tournament semifinal match with the top rated 43-4 Holy Trinity Crusaiders.

Winfield-Mount Union made it to the regional semifinal by defeating the Sigourney Savages in four sets (25-15, 20-25, 25-20, 25-23) on Tuesday. Holy Trinity got to the semifinals by sweeping Van Buren and Harmony in straight sets.

Winfield-Mount Union will have their hands full trying to stop the best rated high school volleyball player in the state of Iowa. Holy Trinity senior Mikaela Foecke, enters play tonight with a state leading 684 kills, an average of 6.3 kills per set. Foecke has committed to play volleyball at the University of Nebraska next fall.

Winfield-Mount Union enter play this evening with two players having collected over 200 kills this season. They include seniors Nicole Escher (216) and Lou Lou Krieger-Coen (204). Junior Caitlin Jamison has a team high 548 assists, and Krieger-Coen has the team lead in blocks with 68.

The winner of tonight’s match will advance to the regional final against the winner of Southern Warren and Morvia match being played this evening in Corydon. Tonight’s regional semifinal match between Winfield-Mount Union and Holy Trinity serves at 7 p.m. in Fort Madison.
