County Council kicked off the evening in fun fashion with a Throwback Threads 4-H Fashion Show. Eight members modeled 4-H uniforms from the 1960s to present. These uniforms would have been worn to formal county events such as awards night or county rally or state conference.

Washington County 4-Hers and volunteers were recently recognized for their work throughout the year. At the annual Washington County 4-H Awards and Family Fun Night, a number of prestigious awards were announced including the following: Keiffer Sexton received the Ak-Sar-Ben Award; McKenna Brinning received the Ak-Sar-Ben Award and Achievements Award; Emma Stout received the Achievement and Leadership Awards; Jordan Stout received the I Dare You Award; and Kaitlin Hora received the Leadership Award and I Dare You Award. The Highlanders 4-H Club received the Community Service Award for their volunteer work and hosting a blood drive in Ainsworth.

The 4-H Family of the Year has been responsible for helping build the rich tradition and history of Washington County 4-H. The Bohr families have been instrumental in making the 4-H program one to be proud of and one of the top programs in the state. Howard and Shirley Bohr and Shirley Jean and the late Harold Bohr were honored as 4-H Family of the Year with over 23 children and grandchildren present to celebrate. Howard and Shirley and Harold and Shirley all made individual impacts to the county program through the years. Members of the Bohr Families have since been 4-H club leaders, fair superintendents, fair board members, county fair committee members, trophy donors, endowment donors, 4-H members, queens, grand champions, members of Extension Council, youth committee members, county council and leadership development members, they have worked with the Share-A-Calf program, helped at livestock weigh-ins, and project achievement shows. Their dedication, devotion, and willingness to go above and beyond and help make Washington County 4-H what it is today is valued beyond belief.


Leadership Recognition
4-H club leaders were recognized for years of service who were celebrating five year anniversaries: Nancy Adrian, 25 years, Good Luck 4-H Club; Steve Stender, five years, Bows & Bullets; Heather Greiner, five years, Prairie Pride; Jodi Ebert, five years, Washington Hustlers; Joe Tebockhorst, 20 years, Limecreek Livewires. Not pictured are Ted Greiner, five years, Dutch Creek Flyers; and Marvin Mast, five years, Bows and Bullets.


Intermediate Citizenship award was awarded to Jack Carter and Brooke Stout, both of the Jackson Jets 4-H Club. These members promote 4-H in a positive way, are actively involved in the 4-H program, and have demonstrated skills in citizenship, leadership, and community service. Carter is the son of John and Kim Carter and a member of the 4-H ELITE Project Team. Stout is the daughter of Rob and Julie Stout of Washington.


Senior Citizenship Awards were presented to Joceline Spenner of the Jackson Jets and Hannah Van Roekel of the Limecreek Limelights. Both members set an example of how to be productive citizens playing an important and generous role in the community. Spenner is the daughter of Bob and Joanne Spenner and a member of 4-H County Council. Van Roekel is the daughter of Marty and Marianne Van Roekel and a second year member of the 4-H ELITE Project Team.



The 2014-2015 county council team was installed with a candle light ceremony reminding them that 4-H is built with high ideals and that they are now a light for the 4-H program. They pledged to make the best better. Six new members were installed with 19 returning members.
