Be safe this Thanksgiving holiday week and remember to buckle up, slow down and drive defensively. The Iowa Department of Pubic Safety’s Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau and law enforcement officers across Iowa are teaming up for a Special Traffic Enforcement Program this week, beginning today through Sunday.

There will be an increased presence of law enforcement on Iowa’s roads this week and motorists are urged to buckle up. In 2013, there were 317 traffic fatalities in the state with 107 not restrained by a seat belt, or more than 43%, and 77% of those ejected from a vehicle during a crash are killed.
