Louisa-Muscatine students are recovering following a school bus accident that occurred Tuesday morning. At around 7:45, the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office was notified that a school bus was involved in a rollover accident on County Road X61 near the intersection of H Avenue.

The school bus, driven by 58-year-old Ricky L Hines of rural Columbus Junction, was traveling south on X61 when the driver lost control and exited the roadway into the right ditch.

Eight out of the 10 elementary and high school students riding the bus were transported by ambulance to Trinity Hospital in Muscatine for non-life threatening injuries. The Iowa State Patrol and Louisa County Sheriff’s Office are investigating what caused the accident. No charges have been filed against the driver.

The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Transportation Vehicle Enforcement division, Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office, Wapello Ambulance, Wapello Fire and Rescue, Grandview Fire, Letts Ambulance and Muscatine Ambulance responded to the accident.
