The Columbus Community School Board is considering layoffs to address their deficit spending. According to the Associated Press, state officials have notified Superintendent Marlene Johnson that failing to correct the problem could result in consequences. At a special meeting Monday, the board approved a budget work plan that would save the district $700,000. The plan cuts five teaching positions, a technician position and reduces the superintendent’s salary by $60,000.  The state is expected to make a decision on the plan next month.
