The Columbus Wildcats girls’ basketball team plays their first regular season basketball game of the season.

The Wildcats come into play this evening off a 10-12 season in 2013-14, their first losing season since the 2010-11 season (6-15). Columbus begin the 2014-15 campaign in West Liberty for a non-conference matchup with the Comets. The two teams were matched up in last year’s season opener with Columbus winning 40-35 in Columbus Junction on November 22, 2013. Tonight is the fifth meeting between the two schools since the 2011-12 season, and Columbus has won four of those five meetings.

Columbus welcomes back first team all-conference performer Kelsey Pretz for her senior season. Pretz led the Wildcats in points per game (13.2) and rebounds per game (7.7 rpg) last season. Tip off for tonight’s varsity girls’ basketball contest between Columbus and West Liberty is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. at West Liberty High School.
