The Columbus Wildcat football team’s improvement during the 2014 football season was recognized by area coaches.

The coaches of Class 1A district six just released the players on this season’s all-district team, and seven Wildcat players are on various teams.

Columbus placed two players on the first team all-district team,  including senior Chase Finke as a wide receiver and junior Mauricio Ramirez at running back. Finke had a career high 33 receptions, ending his career as the school’s all-time leader in receptions (76). He tallied 539 receiving yards and scored four touchdowns. Ramirez finished third in the district in rushing yards (1,263), and fourth in the district in rushing touchdowns (16).

The Wildcats had two players named to the all-district second team. They include senior Ricardo Roman as a defensive back, and junior Trace Taylor at a tackle position. Roman tied for the district lead with four interceptions.

Honorable mention selections from Columbus include: DJ Beechum, Austin Edwards, and Jarret Lekwa; all three seniors.

The Columbus Wildcats finished the 2014 football season 3-6 overall, a two win improvement from the previous season.
