A $10.55 million project approved by the Iowa Department of Public Health is coming to Washington. Halcyon House in Washington is expanding and renovating portions of the facility to develop a memory care household to provide licensed 24-hour care and services for up to 18 people with mid- to late-stage dementia. The state’s approval is required for such projects to ensure they are not exceeding demand in the area.

The project will also include replacing Avalon House, a skilled nursing center and developing three skilled nursing households, each will have 18 private bedroom and bathroom suites; as well as, a new front entrance to Halcyon House, renovated dining spaces and a new multi-purpose room. The non-profit is aiming to raise $2 million to offset the cost.
