The Highland Huskies’ football team had several players recognized for their contributions on the gridiron this past season. The coaches of Class 1A district six just released the players on this season’s all-district team, and seven Huskies were apart of the various teams.

Headlining the group is senior Chase Rath, named as the district most valuable special teams player. Rath punted the ball 41 times this season, averaging just over 41 yards per punt. His longest punt of the year was 65 yards in a loss to Pella Christian.

Highland’s first team selections included senior Brian Garcia, who played running back, and senior Jake Yeggy. Garcia rushed for 959 yards and eight touchdowns. He also caught 1o passes for 137 yards and another touchdown. Yeggy played on the offensive and defensive lines for Highland. Yeggy had a 60-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown in Highland’s Week 2 win against Iowa Valley.

The Huskies had two players named to the all-district second team. Those players include senior Josh Kasparek and junior Nick Sandburg. Kasparek was second on the team in receiving yards (377) and rushing yards (139), scoring seven total touchdowns (four rushing, three receiving). Sandburg caught 21 passes for 226 yards and three touchdowns.

Highland had three additional players named as all-district honorable mentions; including senior Jesse Wollrab, senior Zach Kleopfer, and junior Spencer Wieland.
